The Strangers buy

 Y?Arcka’s debut, Un-herd Vol. 1

begins with a groggy and hollow sound.  The drum patterns on Fantastic

Wimbledon psp

are just that.  Coupled with great sound effects.  B-boy in sweatpants is quite a turn and it is quite frankly an incredible composition.  I found myself replaying it wishing the funk would last a little longer.

Cry-Baby buy

Twenty-six seconds is hardly enough for such a rich beat.  I know suspends the high felt from b-boy and is followed by what I can only describe as a transcendent eight seconds of audio.  Again, left jilted by the length, I find myself hitting repeat often.

I Want Candy psp The One and Understand symbiotically fit together, although I am not sure how.  I only know that my ear likes them very, very much.  Particularly

Understand, the weight of the words coupled with the melancholic vocals would be a lovely canvas for any emcee to paint on verbally and vibrantly.  New Faces and Sometimes in April move Gonna Reign follows in the feeling and wonderment of Understand.  Simply put, they are so melancholanly brilliant.  I begin to wonder what the hell is up with my infatuation with all things dark and depravcd.

Sorry comes off as very Dilla-istic.

A word, although non-existent, is far from insulting.  It is such a beautifully-layered composition.  It is a… is where it gets really serious for me.  I am a certified Sade lover.  (One of the most talented and sexiest women on the planet if you ask me…still.)  So my excitement for this album shot through the roof when I heard this track.  Not only was I allowed to hear her beautiful voice, which, on any sample would instantly arouse me, Y?Arcka chops up a beautiful song to cleverly recite the title of the track.  I have said it once in this review but I’ll say it again loudly; this time, clutching my Promise vinyl, Brilliant!   Come With Me (Holla) is yet another dilla-istic track that is succulent to the ear.  The subtle Mos Def quips are not lost on the listener either.  “Very, very good Dilla-son” (getting my Mr. Miyagi on.)

Bath Day Darkness is Spreading, Guiding Light Mr. Nanny psp and Lot-a-Rap all return to that hollow, minimalist sound that characterizes the second and third tracks on the album.  As I patiently listen through this on A Different Loyalty divx Lot-a-Rap, I am rewarded with an ill overlay of eerily angelic vocals a little more than halfway through.  As I take in the last track on what has been an impressive album, I find it fitting that the sample in Ancient Spirits

sounds a lot like Tony Starks skits, given the presence of him on the last track or so.  As the album comes to a close, I am left with sated ears and a sincere feeling of having the pleasure of listening to a thoughtful musical contribution when so often, a random spew of heavily sampled tracks with tasteless and talentless drum placement passes nowadays as quality instrumentals.  Dilla-istic, I’m sure he would be proud.
